Two Brunei worksites face enforcement action over safety violations

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (Shena) has taken enforcement action against two construction worksites on two separate occasions for failure to comply with Regulation 5, First-Aiders under the Workplace Safety and Health (First-Aid) Regulations.

A construction worksite in Kampong Penabai, Tutong, was issued a BND500 compound fine by the Shena on April 15, following an inspection conducted at the site.

The enforcement action relates to a failure to comply with Regulation 5, First-Aiders under the Workplace Safety and Health (First-Aid) Regulations. As a result, a compound fine of BND500 was issued to the occupier of the premises and has since been settled in full.

Following the inspection, the occupier has undertaken the necessary corrective measures to address the non-compliance identified during the inspection.

Meanwhile, a construction worksite in Kampong Negalang Ering, Mukim Batu Apoi, Temburong, was issued a BND500 compound fine on May 4 following an inspection.

The enforcement action also relates to a failure to comply with Regulation 5, First-Aiders under the Workplace Safety and Health (First-Aid) Regulations. The compound fine was issued to the occupier of the premises and has since been settled in full.

Following the inspection, the occupier has undertaken the necessary corrective measures to address the non-compliance identified during the inspection.

Shena reminded all parties that compliance with the Workplace Safety and Health Act, Cap 277, and its subsidiary regulations is mandatory at all times. Any occupier who fails to comply with the Workplace Safety and Health (First-Aid) Regulations commits an offence and is liable, upon conviction, to a fine not exceeding BND5,000.

Shena remains committed to upholding safety, health and environmental compliance and will continue to conduct inspections and take appropriate enforcement action in accordance with the law to safeguard workers, the public and the environment. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
