Brunei Sultan to attend 48th Asean Summit in Philippines


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah (pic) is scheduled to attend the 48th Asean Summit and Related Summits from May 7 to 8 in Cebu City, Republic of the Philippines, according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The Philippines, as Asean Chair this year, has adopted the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together”, reflecting its commitment to fostering unity, resilience and deeper regional integration.

The summit is expected to advance discussions across the three pillars of the Asean community, focusing on strategic priorities including peace and security, economic growth and people empowerment.

On the sidelines, the Sultan is also expected to attend the Special BIMP-EAGA Summit, where the BIMP-EAGA Vision 2035 (BEV 2035) is anticipated to be launched.

The vision outlines the subregion’s development direction for the next decade from 2026 to 2035, aimed at strengthening cooperation, promoting sustainable growth and enhancing resilience towards shared prosperity.

The participation underscores Brunei Darussalam’s continued commitment to regional cooperation and integration within Asean and its subregional frameworks. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
