Cambodia sees drop in drug arrests, seizures in first four months

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia has reported a remarkable decline in both the number of people arrested in drug cases and the amount of narcotics seized during the first four months of 2026, said an Anti-Drug Department (ADP)'s report released on Friday (May 1).

The authorities had arrested a total of 5,733 drug-related suspects during the January-April period this year, down 30 per cent from 8,203 over the same period last year, the report said, adding that a total of 2,255 drug cases were recorded, down 28 per cent from 3,135.

"Some 693kg of illicit drugs, 8.5kg of opium, and 7.3kg of dry cannabis had been seized from those suspects' possession from January 1 to April 30, 2026," the report said.

The amount of seized narcotics in the first four months this year represented a significant drop from 1.64 tons seized over the same period last year, the report added. - Xinhua
