Vietnam approves establishment of centrally governed Dong Nai City


HANOI (Xinhua): Vietnamese lawmakers have adopted a resolution to establish the southern province of Dong Nai as a centrally governed city during the first session of the 16th National Assembly, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

The resolution takes effect on April 30, 2026.

The newly established city borders Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong province, Tay Ninh province, and Cambodia.

Following the move, Vietnam will have seven centrally governed cities, including the capital Hanoi, the northern city of Hai Phong, the central cities of Hue, Da Nang, and the southern cities of Ho Chi Minh, Can Tho and Dong Nai. -- Xinhua
