VIENTIANE: Construction of the Danang-Xekong Friendship Hospital in Thataeng district, Xekong province, has officially begun following a ground-breaking ceremony held on Wednesday (April 1).

The hospital, funded by Danang City in Vietnam at a cost of US$6.7 million, will be built over a 36-month period, bringing modern healthcare facilities to underserved communities.

The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by the Secretary of the Xekong Provincial Party Committee, Bounlay Boutthi; Secretary of the Danang City Party Committee, Le Ngoc Quang; other senior officials from both sides; representatives of the Ministry of Health and provincial and district authorities.

Speaking at the event, Bounlay described the project as a meaningful gift from the Party Committee, authorities, and people of Danang City to Xekong province.

The construction of the hospital reflects the longstanding special solidarity between Laos and Vietnam and is a symbol of the close, brotherly ties and mutual support enjoyed by the two countries.

The hospital will provide significantly more health services for the people of Thataeng district and surrounding areas, helping to ease challenges related to distance and financial constraints in obtaining medical care at existing facilities.

The two-storey hospital will also have a two-storey staff dormitory, a restaurant, laundry, mortuary, waste treatment system and generator.

Additional infrastructure will include internal roads, parking areas, perimeter fencing, security posts, a transformer, and landscaped surroundings.

Bounlay called on the relevant sectors, local authorities, and residents to support the construction process and ensure close coordination with the contractor.

He stressed the importance of maintaining high standards in construction quality, labour safety, and environmental protection, urging all parties to strictly comply with Lao laws and approved technical designs.

The Director of Chaleunsok Sole Co., Ltd., Somchit Vongvilay, said the company is committed to employing skilled personnel and high-quality materials to ensure the project is completed on schedule and to the highest standards.

The contractor will strictly follow the approved plans and timelines, aiming to deliver a modern, durable, and environmentally-friendly facility that will serve as a lasting symbol of cooperation and friendship between Danang and Xekong province, he added. - Vientiane Times/ANN
