Water supply disrupted by landslides

THE Public Works Department (PWD) has activated its emergency response centre following landslides that damaged water transmission pipes in a rural area of Tutong district, resulting in widespread water supply disruptions across the country.

In a press release issued on Friday, the department said the centre brings together several departments under the Ministry of Development, along with other relevant agencies.

The coordinated effort focuses on delivering water supplies via tankers, particularly to water intake centres and critical facilities such as hospitals, clinics, mosques and places of worship in affected areas.

The PWD said that eight new pipes out of a total of 16 required had been successfully installed.

Repair works are expected to be completed by today, subject to weather conditions. Water supply is expected to be fully restored by tomorrow. — Xinhua
