Death toll in South Korean power plant accident up to six

SEOUL: At least six people have died when a boiler tower collapsed at a thermal power plant in the city of Ulsan in South Korea during demolition work, news agency Yonhap reported on Thursday (Nov 13).

A sixth body was recovered a week after the approximately 60-metre boiler tower collapsed on November 6, Yonhap reported. The search continues for a worker believed to still be trapped.

According to Yonhap, construction workers had cut through several of the building's steel supports to facilitate a planned demolition.

The tower was decommissioned in 2021 after 40 years of operation. - dpa
