YANGON: Myanmar’s Ministry of Energy has temporarily shut down 17 fuel stations across Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay and Mon State, while issuing strong warnings to 24 others for selling fuel without scanning Bar Code/QR Code systems.
The upgraded QR-based system, which sets purchase limits based on vehicle type, is being implemented in major cities and along key highways to ensure smoother fuel distribution.
A daily call centre (6 a.m. to 10 p.m.) has also been set up to handle public inquiries and complaints.
Authorities said action is being taken against stations involved in violations such as refusing to scan codes, overpricing, illegal sales, or closing without notice.
Reports from the public have led to enforcement measures, including the closure of 17 stations and penalties against responsible staff.
Additionally, monitoring teams have identified 24 stations across several regions that failed to follow QR scanning procedures and have issued strict warnings.
Officials say further non-compliance will result in serious action. - Eleven Media/ANN
