Two Brazilians named suspects in fatal stabbing of Dutch tourist in Bali

DENPASAR: Bali Police have identified two Brazilian nationals as suspects in the fatal stabbing of a Dutch tourist in North Kuta last week

Bali Police’s General Crime Director Sr. Comr. I Gede Adhi Mulyawarman said the suspects, 35-year-old Darlan Bruno Lima Sanandana and 28-year-old Kalyl Hyorran, were identified through CCTV footage, GPS data and witness statements.

“We believe they have fled Bali for another country. We will coordinate with Interpol to issue red notices for both suspects,” he said over the weekend.

Gede said the two suspects could face premeditated murder charges, which carry a maximum sentence of death if convicted.

He added that Bali Police are committed to taking swift and firm action against crimes involving foreign nationals to ensure public safety and maintain order across the island. “

We also urge the public to report without hesitation any criminal incidents or suspicious activities involving foreign nationals to the nearest police authorities,” he said.

A 49-year-old Dutch tourist, identified only as RP, was fatally stabbed while returning to his villa around 11pm in North Kuta on March 23.

RP had been walking with his Indonesian girlfriend, identified only as PI, when they encountered two men on a motorcycle along the road to their villa. The suspects initially passed the couple but soon turned back and began pursuing them.

PI hid in nearby bushes as one attacker stabbed RP with a knife. The second assailant joined the attack after failing to find PI. Both assailants fled the scene immediately after carrying out the attack.

RP was rushed to BIMC Hospital in South Kuta but died shortly after, suffering severe blood loss from multiple stab wounds to his neck, face, right arm, left shoulder, and back.

Authorities believe the attack may have been premeditated, noting that the assailants did not take any of the victim’s belongings, including his phone or jewellery. T

he incident marks the latest in a string of violent cases involving foreigners in Bali.

On Feb 15, 28-year-old Ukrainian tourist Igor Komarov was attacked and abducted by a group of foreigners while riding a scooter with two friends in the Jimbaran area on Jl. Pura Batu Meguwung. Shortly afterward, a video circulated on social media showing a man believed to be Komarov, visibly injured, pleading for help and mentioning a ransom demand of US$10

On Feb. 27, a local resident discovered dismembered and decomposing human remains near Ketewel Beach in Bali's Sukawati district about 30km from where Komarov went missing. Police later confirmed the remains belonged to him.

Authorities have identified six foreign suspects in the case, identified only as RM, VK, AS, VN, SM and DH. All the suspects remain at large, with four believed to have left Indonesia via Ngurah Rai International Airport and the remaining two thought to still be in the country.

In June last year, Australian tourist Zivan Radmanovic, 32, was killed shortly after midnight when two armed assailants stormed his villa in Badung regency, Bali, and opened fire. A second Australian national, Sanar Ghanim, 34, present at the scene, sustained gunshot injuries.

Police later arrested three Australians in connection with the attack: Mevlut Coskun, 22, Paea-I-Middlemore Tupou, 26 and Darcy Francesco Jenson, 27.

The trio were recently sentenced by the Denpasar District Court to 12–16 years in prison for premeditated murder and illegal possession of firearms. - The Jakarta Post/ANN
