VIENTIANE: Laos has launched a project to empower women and persons with disabilities through the development of One District One Product, improved packaging design and expanded access to e-commerce.

The project was launched on Tuesday (March 31), marking an important initiative that reflects a strong commitment to strengthening local enterprises and promoting an inclusive, participatory economy in Laos, Lao Economic Daily reported.

Lao officials have emphasized that the development of local products and community-based industries is a key policy priority in Laos. These products not only generate income for communities but also highlight the country's rich and unique cultural heritage.

In today's rapidly changing economic climate, it is essential not only to produce local products but also to ensure they remain competitive in both domestic and international markets.

This requires strengthening product quality, packaging design, brandin, and market access, including through digital platforms and e-commerce.

At the same time, small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly those led by women and persons with disabilities, must be actively supported and encouraged to seize these opportunities.

This timely initiative aims to enhance the capacity of local producers, improve product standards, and expand market opportunities through digital channels.

It marks an important step toward building a more competitive, resilient, and inclusive economy in Laos, according to the report. - Xinhua
