'A service for the people': Darul Mustaqqim continues to help bad and illegal debt victims free of charge

KUALA LUMPUR: The Darul Mustaqqim Centre for Quranic and Fardu Ain Studies (DM) continues to make a difference by offering free religious education and assisting victims of illegal moneylenders (known locally as “Ah Long”) across Malaysia without charging a cent.

The centre’s new headquarters (HQ) was officially opened in KL in conjunction with DM’s fourth anniversary and the commemoration of the Haul of Al-‘Arif Billah Sayyidi Abd Hamid Ismail, better known as Paksu Mid Bukit Tembaga, a revered spiritual teacher who inspired the establishment of the institution.

Speaking on behalf of DM founder Datuk Mustaqqim DS Mustapa, Datuk Mohd Zaki Datuk Zainol (DM General Manager) expressed gratitude for what he described as “two great blessings,” the opening of the new HQ and the centre’s four-year milestone.

“Darul Mustaqqim is not merely a place of learning, but a garden of the heart, a sanctuary where the seeds of divine love are planted, nourished by remembrance and refined through adab (ethics),” he said.

He added that DM’s journey began humbly in a small space with a big vision to provide free Quranic and Fardu Ain education while offering guidance to individuals trapped in financial scams, loan shark debts, and other life struggles.

Adam Mustapa, better known as Along DM, the Head of DM’s Anti-Ah Long Unit, said the number of people seeking help through the centre has grown significantly over the past four years.

“Darul Mustaqqim is the only centre that assists Ah Long victims without imposing any service fee. We negotiate directly with the lenders to arrange repayment on-hand, without interest or profit,” he explained.

He also warned the public to be cautious of self-proclaimed “loan consultants” or influencers who profit from creating content around debt victims instead of offering genuine help.

“We are not an NGO or fundraising body. DM operates purely as an educational and spiritual centre. We use our past experience in the world of illegal loans to reach out and bring victims back to the path of faith and knowledge,” he said.

Along DM, who once lived in the world of debt collection, shared how his life transformed through prayer and guidance from religious teachers.

“I used to pressure people for money. Today, I pressure them to study the Quran. True peace came through prayer and repentance,” he said with a smile.

He further reminded the public to avoid riba (usury), stressing that such practices bring long-term harm beyond financial loss.

“It’s not just about money. Riba destroys families and erodes blessings. We want to help people rebuild their lives the right way,” he said.

"With our new headquarters now open, Darul Mustaqqim remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing faith, spreading free Quranic education, and guiding those seeking a return to spiritual peace, all without seeking material gain, only the pleasure of God."
