Brunei's unemployment rate drops to 4.7% in 2024

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei's unemployment rate stood at 4.7 per cent in 2024, down from 5.1 per cent the previous year, a government minister said on Thursday (Oct 16).

The figure reflected a positive trend, but Brunei should not be complacent, said Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah, minister at the Prime Minister's Office and second minister of Finance and Economy, at the opening of Brunei's Career Tour held near the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.

Mohd Amin Liew said in 2024, the Career Tour had attracted over 8,000 jobseekers, resulting in more than 500 vacancies being filled, a meaningful achievement made possible through the collaboration of educational institutions, industries and training centers.

According to Hajah Noraini Haji Mohd Jamudin, director of Brunei Job Centre, this year's Career Tour has attracted 105 exhibitors comprising government agencies and private companies from various sectors, offering over 1,682 job opportunities.

The Career Tour will be held through Sunday. - Xinhua
