Five more bodies recovered from condo, five months after Mandalay earthquake

YANGON: Five more bodies were recovered from the collapsed Sky Villa condominium in Mandalay on Friday (Aug 29), more than five months after the devastating earthquake, according to the Myanmar Fire Services Department.

Rescue teams discovered the remains of a man and two women in Unit A3 at around noon, while the bodies of another man and woman were found earlier at 10:25am he same day.

The search operation is being carried out by NTL Company in cooperation with the Aung Myay Thar Zan Township Fire Department. Officials reported that nearly 20 bodies have been recovered from the site during August alone.

The powerful earthquake that struck Mandalay on March 28 caused severe destruction, including the collapse of the Sky Villa condo and several hotels and residential buildings.

Nearly 400 people were believed to have been living in the high-rise at the time of the disaster. Many of the recovered bodies have been found in groups, including women and children.

In addition to human remains, valuable items such as gold, silver, and jewelry have also been uncovered during the search. - Eleven Media/ANN
