Eight Filipino seafarers detained by Malaysia over immigration law breach


MANILA: Eight Filipino seafarers have been detained by Malaysia over alleged violations of Malaysian immigration laws and regulations, the Philippines' Migrant Workers (DMW) said Friday (April 18).

DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac (pic) said the crew members are being detained at a police station in Kota Tinggi, in the state of Johor.

"Our labour attache and DMW lawyer in Malaysia visited the eight jailed seafarers and raised the defence of good faith before the investigation officer," he said in a statement.

"We have been informed that the results of the investigation will be out soon," Cacdac added.

Cacdac said his department will investigate the shipowner to determine the circumstances that led to the seafarers' detention. - Xinhua
