Brunei records 1.4 million airline passengers in 2024, confirms minister

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): The Brunei International Airport has recorded 1,464,245 passengers in 2024, a government minister has announced.

The Brunei airport is capable of handling up to 3 million passengers annually, and there is still space for new airlines to operate in the country, Pengiran Shamhary, minister of transport and infocommunications, said at Brunei's Legislative Council.

The minister said the contribution of the air transport sector to Brunei's gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 18.9 per cent in 2024, following a recovery in the travel industry.

Brunei has a vision to become a regional air hub, and actions taken include strengthening ties regionally and internationally, widening air routes to facilitate the movement of passengers and goods, and thus attracting trade in line with the Brunei Vision 2035.
