Brunei expects stormy weather in next few days

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD), in a statement released on Thursday (May 30) said weather conditions for the next few days are forecasted to be active due to development of low pressure system near the Sultanate making the atmosphere unstable resulting in formation of rain clouds.

Current active weather conditions, from yesterday until June 3, see occasional heavy and thundery showers affecting many areas of the Sultanate with wind gusts up to 45 kilometres per hour during heavy or thundery showers. Over Brunei waters, sea state is mild between 0.3 and 0.7 metres.

The agency also said Brunei is currently at the end of inter-monsoon period and transitioning to southwest monsoon by next month. Typically, southwest monsoon will persist until September.

BDMD said atmospheric conditions over the Sultanate tend to be stable with minimal thunderstorms during southwest monsoon and the winds will generally be blowing from the southwest direction. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
