KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) have lifted their sixth Malaysia Cup title after beating Kuching City 2-0 in the final at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday (May 23).
The Cats had their chances to win the game, but were not clinical enough, whereas the Southern Tigers showed efficiency was enough to win the tie.
In the 60th minute, Kuching were awarded a penalty after winger Ramadhan Saifullah was fouled by La’vere Corbin-Ong, but Ramadhan, having a poor game, missed his penalty by placing it wide.
JDT eventually broke the deadlock in the 80th minute when Brazilian winger Marcus Guilherme scored with a superb finish from the left.
Arif Aiman Hanapi, on his return after a time out due to injury, got the second in injury time with a superb finish from outside to complete a glorious night for JDT.
Midfielder Stuart Wilkin got the third of the night for the Johor club, also in injury time.
The win was JDT’s fourth consecutive Malaysia Cup title and their fourth straight quadruple of the season, where they have snagged all four domestic titles - the Super League, FA Cup, Malaysia Cup and the Charity Shield.
