MANILA: The Philippines, the United States and Japan are in the final stages of planning the first official meeting between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr and his counterparts US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Washington next month to reinforce the trilateral cooperation among the three allies in the face of an increasingly assertive China.

The planned meeting is expected to take place mid-April, coinciding with Kishida’s trip for the US-Japan Summit, a government official privy to the event told the Inquirer.
