NORTH PENAJAM PASER (Indonesia): (Bernama-Antara) Construction of key facilities for the Constitutional Court (MK) and Judicial Commission (KY) in Indonesia's future capital, Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan, has reached 12.41 per cent completion, according to the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN), reported Antara news agency.
"The development of the IKN judicial area officially commenced in December 2025 under the second phase of the city's construction,” Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) Head Basuki Hadimuljono said in Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan.
Speaking on Saturday (Aug 1), Hadimuljono said that the 15-hectare judicial zone will house facilities for the MK, KY, and the Supreme Court, alongside the Plaza of Justice and a mosque.
Structural work across the complex has reached an average of 11.8 per cent completion, while road construction has progressed to 27.6 per cent, he added.
Regarding the MK building, the former public works minister highlighted that the structure will span 44,691 square metres, featuring a 400-seat plenary courtroom, a judge deliberation room, and administrative facilities.
Both the legislative and judicial zones are under construction within Nusantara's Government Core Area (KIPP), backed by a Rp3.1 trillion (about US$171.61 million) budget and targeted for completion by December 2027.
MK Justice Arsul Sani recently inspected the site and participated in a tree-planting activity within the judicial zone.
"I am optimistic that the development of IKN is proceeding on schedule, in line with the target,” Sani said.
The judicial complex is situated west of the State Palace, while the legislative zone is located directly opposite.
The government is prioritising development in Nusantara's legislative and judicial zones throughout 2026 to support designating the city as Indonesia's political capital by 2028.
President Prabowo Subianto has reiterated his commitment to continuing Nusantara's development, which was initiated in 2022 under former president Joko Widodo to reduce Java-centric growth and promote balanced regional development.
Subianto reinforced this commitment during his initial presidential visit to Nusantara last January to review ongoing construction.
The trip followed an inspection by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka in late December 2025.
Following his two-day visit, Raka confirmed that the government aims to complete both the legislative and judicial complexes by 2027 ahead of declaring Nusantara the national political capital the following year. - Bernama-Antara
