Ferry catches fire at Pangkor Jetty

PANGKOR: A passenger ferry docked at the Pangkor Jetty here was damaged after its front portion caught fire on Friday. 

Perak Fire and Rescue Department chief Yahaya Madis said a crew member, who was on board the ferry, had reported the matter to the department at 2.46pm.

"Our men managed to get the fire under control and stopped it from spreading from the bridge and front passenger deck to the rest of the vessel. 

"We estimate that about 60% of the vessel to be damaged," he said, adding that no one else was on board at the time of the incident.
