KUALA LUMPUR: A cycle path stretching 8.8km from MidValley to Dataran Merdeka is expected to be opened to the public by early next year, said Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib.

He said construction of the path, which meanders along Sungai Klang, was at its final stage and was expected to be completed by end of this year.

"The route is already there ... the alignment is ready ... just needs to be improved further to ensure safety and comfort of users.

"Furthermore, there is one track that needs to be discussed with Prasarana Negara Berhad as they cross paths with the LRT (Light Rail Transit) track " he told reporters after cycling with participants of the "Kuala Lumpur Aidilfitri Edition Car Free Day " here on Sunday.

The activity saw nearly 5,000 participants walking, jogging and roller-blading around over a seven-kilometre route in the nation's capital from 7am. - Bernama
