Early Portuguese called Taiwan La Isla Formosa, meaning the beautiful island, and understandably so.
Located off the shores of China, Taiwan is blessed with spectacular scenery. The eastern and less populated part of the island is dominated by a rugged mountain range, and it is here that most of the national parks are located.
