WhatsApp is now rolling out a new feature which enables users to send photos in HD on both iOS TestFlight and the Android beta.

The feature can be enabled when sharing a large image file with a contact or group by tapping the HD photo icon prior to sending the message and choosing between standard or HD quality.

Status updates unfortunately do not have the option for this feature.

According to the report from WABetaInfo, HD images will still be subject to some light compression, but the original dimensions of the photo will be maintained.

This means that while the new feature allows for higher quality image sharing, the image shared will not be in its original quality.

Users currently need to be part of the WhatsApp beta to be eligible for the feature’s rollout, with the latest version of the app being 23.11.0.76 on iOS and 2.23.12.13 on Android.

Those keen on enrolling their device in the beta program on Android can do so here, while those on iOS can join the TestFlight here.

WhatsApp previously added the ability to edit messages and a “Chat Lock” which locks conversations behind a passcode or biometrics.
