Most newer computer operating systems, such as Windows 10 and macOS, can be set to automatically adapt display colours and brightness to the surrounding environment. For instance, when it's dark out, it's better for your eyes if your computer dials down the blue tones in the screen.

But this is a newer feature on computers, so if you have an older model, you might need help manually adjusting these dials. One way to do this is with the help of the software f.lux, which is available for Windows and Mac.

"f.lux makes your computer screen look like the room you're in, all the time. When the sun sets, it makes your computer look like your indoor lights. In the morning, it makes things look like sunlight again," the developer says on the website.

The software automatically adjusts the display screen to be easier on the eyes depending on the time of day. You can also use f.lux to manually make your own specific adjustments. The tool is free to download for Windows and Mac. – dpa
