Apple's wireless charging mat the AirPower might finally be on its way to stores, following rumours that the delayed device is now in production.
Hong Kong based ChargerLAB cites sources that claim two manufacturers in China – Luxshare Precision and Pegatron – have begun mass production of the charger.
"Breaking: AirPower is finally coming. We just learned from credible source in supply chain that the manufacture Luxshare Precision has already started producing Apple AirPower wireless charging pad. Luxshare Precision is also the maker of Apple AirPods and USB-C cables," it tweeted.
It also cited another source who claims Pegatron will begin mass production of the AirPower on Jan 21.
The AirPower is a mat that can wirelessly charge multiple Apple devices that are placed on it, including the iPhone 8 and newer, Apple Watch Series 3 and newer, and AirPods that are stored in a special wireless charging case.
The AirPower was previewed back in September 2017, with Apple indicating it would be released in 2018.
However, after a period of silence on the subject Apple removed most mentions of the AirPower from its website, with references limited to user guides for the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR, plus in Apple job listings and patent applications.
iPhone programmer Steve Troughton-Smith claims that the delay was due to Apple working on technical issues like overheating and interference problems.
MacRumors speculates that the delayed release of the AirPower had likely pushed back the release of a wireless charging case for AirPods, which is listed as "currently unavailable" on Apple's website.
