Prices for the budget private car start from RM1.

Another ride-hailing contender, Quulo Ventures Sdn Bhd, has entered the fight for passengers' preference, offering fares starting at RM1.

According to its website, Quulo offers five categories of rides, including budget (sedans and compact cars), premium (higher-end cars), six-seater (MPV), taxi and taxi executive (for legally registered taxis).

The fare rates vary according to category at RM1 base rate and RM1.35 per km (budget), RM3 base rate and RM2.20 per km (premium), RM2 base rate and RM2.40 per km (six-seater), RM3 base rate and RM1.25 per km (taxi) and RM6 base rate and RM2 per km (taxi executive).

Payment can be made using cash, credit card, or for minors travelling alone, parents can top up their e-wallets within the app to make cashless payments.

Quulo Ventures managing director Vinesh Nair said opting for a subscription model rather than taking a commission allowed them to set lower price fares while still ensuring drivers made a fair earning.

“Quulo enables drivers to pay only a subscription fee of RM4.99 per day on their first hit, the rest is pocketed by the driver without any commission charges,” he said, in a press statement.

He added the service had registered about 9,000 passengers and 6,500 drivers from Klang Valley, Penang and Sabah, and are aiming to sign up 12,500 drivers by May.

The service by Platform Apps Sdn Bhd is available on the Apple app store and the Google Play Store.
