Stabilised cameras: Models showing off the new Sony Xperia XZ at the launch in Kuala Lumpur recently.

With Sony's new Xperia XZ And Xperia X Compact smartphones, the company has focused on producing a better camera in addition to all the usual hardware specifications you'll find on most Android smartphones today.

Both smartphones feature a 23-megapixel 1/2.3in Exmor RS sensor with a 24mm Sony G-branded lens.

What's new is that the company is touting a "triple image sensing" technology to support the camera – the image sensor has phase detect pixels for fast autofocus as well as a laser autofocus sensor to aid with focusing in low-light situations and an RGBC-IR colour sensor for accurate white balance measurements.

Also new is SteadyShot with Intelligent Active mode which Sony claims offers a 5-axis image stabilisation system to produce more stable videos.

The only major difference between the Xperia XZ and the Xperia X Compact rear-facing cameras is that the XZ can shoot Full HD and 4K resolution videos while the Xperia X Compact only shoots up to Full HD at 60fps.

The front facing camera on the Xperia XZ is also different – it's a 13-megapixel Exmor RS sensor while the Xperia X Compact is a 5-megapixel image sensor.

On the hardware front, the Xperia XZ, being the more expensive model, comes with higher hardware specifications and runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, Android 6.0.1, 3GB of RAM, 64GB internal storage, microSD card slot and the display is a 5.2in Full HD Triluminous display.

The Xperia X Compact, on the other hand, runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, Android 6.0.1, 3GB of RAM, 32GB internal storage, microSD card slot and the display is a 4.6in 720p Triluminous display.

The Xperia XZ has a recommended retail price of RM2,699 while the Xperia X Compact will go for RM1,999.

Both the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact will be available nationwide beginning October 7 at Sony Mobile Stores, Sony Centres and authorised dealers.

The phones are also available for pre-order today on 11street.my and customers who preorder on the site will be able to get complimentary gifts and will be given the chance to participate in a lucky draw to win a Cristiano Ronaldo signed jersey worth RM3,000.
