U Mobile gets into the festive spirit by reviving the Malaysian tradition of giving buah tangan (Bahasa Malaysia for “gift”) to friends and family through a campaign known as Project Buah Tangan.
Over a period of two months beginning from July 9, the public will have the chance to send buah tangan hampers to their contacts through a dedicated website.
The website requires you to register and login with your Facebook account, and will draw up a suggested list of names comprising your Facebook friends for you to choose for sending the buah tangan. Subject to availability, U Mobile will arrange to courier the hamper to your friend’s home at no charge.
Buah tangan recipients will be notified by U Mobile through their Facebook account and will need to provide their name, contact number and address to the company in order to receive the hamper.
A total of 1,000 hampers will be available for participants to send to their friends throughout the campaign period.
In addition to the hampers, there are also virtual gifts available for you to send to your friends and this includes e-cards, memes, recipes, quotes and ringtones, courtesy of Canang Studios.
Meanwhile, if you are a U Mobile customer, you stand the chance to win a 50in LED TV if you are identified as the person who has sent out the most buah tangan through your Facebook profile.
There is also a charity segment of the campaign whereby the public can suggest a cause that U Mobile can contribute towards. The company will then pick the best suggestion and will put it into action around the end of August in conjunction with Merdeka.
Besides that, the website also features three videos depicting true stories of how Malaysians became closer to one another through the gesture of giving buah tangan.
