“Last year we saw some very successful ransomware. With more and more people placing their data on the Cloud, I believe we are going to see a combination of ransomware attacking Cloud providers,” says Rob Forsyth, director for Asia Pacific at Sophos.
Ransomware refers to malware that holds a victim’s virtual property “hostage” until a ransom fee is paid. In the case of Cloud services, a victim may get locked out of his own account or be unable to access his files and folders in the Cloud due to it being encrypted by a cybercriminal.
