Nokia’s new flagship smartphone, the 41-megapixel Lumia 1020 is finally available in Malaysia. This Windows Phone 8 device currently has the highest resolution camera of any modern smartphone on the market.

As part of its increased focus on the camera, the Lumia 1020 comes with three different camera apps for taking photos, namely, the default Windows Phone 8 camera app (which has standard shooting options), Smart Lens (which allows for a variety of effects using burst mode) and Pro Mode (which allows for more control).

While it is a 41-megapixel sensor, the Lumia 1020 actually shoots images in either 34-megapixels or 5-megapixels. More importantly, the Lumia 1020 comes with optical image stabilisation for its six-element Zeiss-branded lens, which is a first for smartphones.

The optical image stabilisation in the Lumia 1020 has a floating lens element suspended on ball-bearings which minimises blurry photos by moving the lens element to compensate for camera shake when shooting in low-light situations.

The Lumia 1020 also features a real Xenon flash which is more powerful than the LED lights found on most smartphones.

It also shoots 1080p video, of course, and comes with high amplitude stereo microphones for better sound quality.

Apart from its whopping high-resolution camera, the Lumia 1020, which runs on a dual-core 1.5GHz Krait processor, has a 4.5in (1,280 x 768-pixels) Amoled display, 2GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It is only 10mm thick although there is a bulge on the back where the camera sticks out.

Nokia also has an optional accessory known as the Free Camera Grip, which has a shutter release button and a tripod mount as well as a built-in battery to provide additonal power when the accessory is attached.

The Lumia 1020 will be available in stores on Sept 25 for RM2,499. Additionally, Nokia is bundling the Free Camera Grip accessory (worth RM299) for free with every Lumia 1020 while stocks last.
