Strengthening Malaysia’s water and energy sectors

BETWEEN 2024 and 2025, the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (Petra) advanced key initiatives to strengthen Malaysia’s water and energy sectors, focusing on infrastructure upgrades, system reliability and long-term sustainability.

Progress in the water sector included improvements in treatment capacity, pipeline upgrades, sewage management and flood mitigation, aimed at enhancing water security and protecting communities nationwide.

In the energy sector, the continued expansion of renewable energy, alongside market reforms and grid improvements, support a more stable and efficient electricity supply as Malaysia accelerates its energy transition.

Beyond domestic developments, 2025 also marked important milestones in regional energy cooperation, reinforcing Malaysia’s role within Asean.

Together, these efforts reflect Petra’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding essential services while supporting a resilient and future-ready system.
