NAVIGATING the post-secondary education landscape can be daunting, with students facing a myriad of options after their SPM and IGCSE examinations.
Among these choices, diploma programmes emerge as an option by offering a versatile pathway to continue with a degree or swiftly join the workforce.
At Taylor’s College, the efficacy of diploma programmes is underscored through its 100% graduate employability rate attainment, according to the Higher Education Ministry’s tracer study conducted in 2021 and 2022.
This achievement is attributed to the institution’s innovative approaches and hands-on experiences, ensuring graduates are equipped with the practical skills and knowledge demanded by today’s competitive job market.
Exemplifying this accomplishment are Diploma in Communication alumni Adele Chow and Philip Varges, whose professional journey kickstarted while they were studying at Taylor’s College.
Juggling both studies and entrepreneurial endeavours, Chow managed her time wisely and embraced opportunities in her assignments to gain hands-on experience in marketing.
“I was equipped with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills, and it helped pave the way for me to find and pursue my passion in social media marketing and influencer management,” said Chow, who is the founder of Sevenvault, as well as an accomplished speaker and podcaster.
Since graduating, Chow has actively offered her expertise in different events at Taylor’s and continues to dedicate time to her alma mater to nurture the next generation of professionals.
Another shining example is Philip Varges, who graduated in 2002 and is now the founder and managing director of Fusion Works, a boutique event agency based in Kuala Lumpur.
His journey began like many others, but his determination and grit propelled him to engage with industry experts and work on projects while honing his skills and building connections during his studies.
Acknowledging the importance of academic mentorship, both Chow and Varges fondly remember the academics who shaped their worldview and expanded their knowledge of the industry during their time at Taylor’s.
“Miss Usha, who taught me Malaysian Studies, played an instrumental role in shaping my journey with plenty of support and encouragement. I still keep in touch with her and engage in brainstorming sessions about the profession,” said Varges.
Varges is actively involved with Taylor’s alumni and serves as an industry panel advisor at the college, working with academics to provide student placements for work-based learning (WBL) programmes.
With the option to pursue a degree upon completing a diploma, Taylor’s offers a direct pathway to a Top 1% university in South-East Asia.
Other two-year diploma programmes offered include fields such as Accounting, Business, Information Technology and Interior Design.
The institution also offers a Diploma in Early Childhood Education, spanning two-and-a-half years with incorporated WBL programmes.
Later this year, two new diploma programmes will be introduced, each to include WBL in respective fields of study.
