Let love light the way through dark times

Let love light this year’s Festival of Lights.

THESE past two years have undoubtedly been challenging. When the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic swept the world, nobody could have foreseen the scope of the devastation it would leave in its wake.

No one can deny that these have been dark times, but through it all, one force shines through to keep lighting the way forward as we all head towards rebuilding our lives in the new normal – the love and bond between family.

The ones who are always there no matter what, through thick and thin - our family will always be there for us to lean on. Their love and support will be the strongest force to light the way to a brave new future.

PETRONAS presents the fully animated Deepavali webfilm ‘Akka’ to rally everyone to light up their hearts with love. No matter how dark times get, or how challenging life has become, that light will always be there to pull us through and guide us towards better days ahead.

In the current pandemic, our love for our family, the bonds of friendship and the importance of believing in ourselves will pull us through any darkness we are going through.

As no man is an island, surrounding ourselves with love and support is important to help keep our spirits up and remain positive even in the most trying of times.

With the strong message to all Malaysians to light up their hearts with love, the four-minute 16 seconds web film takes viewers on an adventure in discovering the true meaning of family and love.

Bearing the strong message of “Light up your heart with love”, viewers will follow the main character –older sister Dheeya through her internal struggle for her mother’s approval, during which her little brother Prem goes missing. Dismayed, Dheeya sets off to find him with the help of her neighbour and best friend, Surya.

As they face a creature of darkness, does she have what it takes to rescue her brother?

The web film is available on PETRONAS FB and YouTube, while the 60-second TV commercial has been aired on PETRONAS IG, TV3 and Astro channels.

To add to the excitement, vibrant and festive messenger sticker packs and online background images are available for everyone to download and use this Deepavali to spread the festive joy this year.

Aside from that, taking things offline into the physical realm, a special “kolam” inspired by the web film will be displayed at selected PETRONAS stations in the spirit of the season.

Aside from sending a message of strength and love, the web film also presented an opportunity to engage with local artists who have been hit hard by the pandemic, as part of PETRONAS’ Deepavali celebration and campaign,

This is also the opportunity for PETRONAS to bring some festivity, colours and light and joy to everyone who steps in its stations.

It is hoped that the love and joy of the season sets a positive note for things to come.
