Preparing students for future careers

NOW more than ever, educators and education administrators are looking for new ways to effectively make education accessible to all.

From teachers to politicians, debates are ongoing about how to best level the playing field for students from every layer of society.

Understanding the importance of this, MAA Group Bhd (MAA) executive chairman Tunku Datuk Yaacob Khyra made education a key pillar of MAA’s strategy with the purchase of St.

John’s International School (SJIS) in 2019 and the establishment of Imperium International College (Imperium).

With Kasturi Academia Sdn Bhd, SJIS and Imperium under its belt, MAA has plans to create a one-stop education hub to make high quality education accessible, thanks to its connections with the Budimas Charitable Foundation and the National Higher Education Fund Corporation.

Multi-disciplinary education

After taking over the HELP College of Arts and Technology, MAA resumed operations in March 2020 as Imperium.

As a multi-disciplinary education provider, Imperium offers a wide range of online and blended learning programmes across engineering, culinary, information technology and accounting, among others.

The institution’s strategic location at Fraser Business Park in Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur, enables students to enjoy the benefits of living and learning in the metropolitan, with access to top academic and professional expertise, as well as excellent facilities with a link bridge to the Chan Sow Lin LRT station.

Imperium offers a range of programmes at foundation, certificate and diploma level including business, accountancy, computer science, culinary and hospitality, as well as engineering.Imperium offers a range of programmes at foundation, certificate and diploma level including business, accountancy, computer science, culinary and hospitality, as well as engineering.

In line with the country’s objective to become a regional centre of educational excellence, Imperium has formed partnerships with a range of good overseas universities to conduct 3+0 programmes, such as United Kingdom’s Anglia Ruskin University and United States’ Fort Hays State University.

There are also vocational and professional programmes such as the Diploma in Culinary Arts and accounting programmes like the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Foundation in Accounting.

A principal educational goal of Imperium is to provide relevant quality education in a stimulating academic, social and cultural environment and in the process, help develop graduates as lifelong learners who will make a positive contribution to society, nationally and internationally.

The ultimate objective is to create an ecosystem where teaching and learning take place in a culture of scholarship, creativity, and innovation.

“I am a firm believer that learning is a lifelong process and no one should be deprived of that.

“Therefore, we at Imperium have decided to introduce various levels of programmes, namely certificate, foundation, diploma, degree and other professional papers for students across different levels.

“On top of that, our graduates will also be given opportunities to pursue a career with MAA Group, under any one of its publicly traded outfits, namely Melewar Industrial Group Bhd and Mycron Steel Bhd,” said Tunku Yaacob.

Imperium recently launched the Interview Placement Opportunity programme for its graduates. The programme guarantees that graduates who meet specified criteria will receive an interview placement opportunity with an organisation related to their area of study.

In the first phase of the programme, Imperium will partner with its affiliates under MAA Group across various industries including finance, hospitality, engineering and information technology, among others.

With this programme, Imperium students will not only receive quality education, but also an assurance in career placement and employment opportunities, in line with the college's mission to provide the best quality education and skills, while creating responsible and caring citizens for the future.

Financial assistance available

Imperium offers free foundation programmes, as well as loyalty discounts worth up to RM34,000.

The college also offers a wide range of scholarships and bursaries, thanks to its partnership with the Budimas Charitable Organisation.

Additionally, Imperium has also introduced a 100% study loan option for students who are

looking to pursue ACCA. For now, ACCA students can only apply for financial assistance via the Employment Pension Fund (EPF) account 2 withdrawal.
