UNIVERSITY of Reading Malaysia (UoRM) – the Malaysia branch campus of University of Reading UK – is currently the first and only international branch campus in the country to offer a law degree.

The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree offered by the University of Reading in the UK is well-established in Malaysia and recognised by the Legal Professional Qualifying Board (LPQB) for the Certificate in Legal Practice Examination (CLPE).

The law degree at UoRM is the same as that offered at the UK campus and, subject to Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) full accreditation, will be in line with MQA programme standards and the requirements of the LPQB.

Students at UoRM benefit from the same enhanced learning experience as that of the UK campus, which provides the perfect balance of academic learning and practical experience.

“The University of Reading is known for producing well-rounded and highly-adaptable law graduates who are able to rise quickly in their chosen legal or business career, ” said Prof James Devenney, head of Reading Law School head and professor of Transnational Commercial Law.

One key aspect of the learning experience is an applied, problem-solving approach that presents students authentic cases to examine and discuss.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in client interviewing, negotiation, and mooting competitions. Class sizes are kept low so each student receives personal attention and support.

The School’s O2O Law Speaker Series invites esteemed external speakers to share their knowledge and experience to support the development of the legal profession in Malaysia and to inspire the next generation of legal talent.

“The Reading Law programme places great importance on applied learning, aiming to develop the students' skills and experience to help them graduate with the best possible prospects, ” said Assoc Prof Anne Chrishanthani Vergis, head of Law at University Reading Malaysia.

UoRM’s modern, state-of-the-art campus offers some of the best facilities to support an enriching learning experience – a spacious learning resource centre, classrooms equipped with the latest audio-visual technology, a moot court and legal clinic.

The campus is located in EduCity, Iskandar Johor – an education hub that also houses several educational institutions.

Students here have access to world-class sports facilities, Olympic-size swimming pool and a student hub, which incorporates a fast food restaurant, eateries, activity hall and jamming studio.

For online learning, students have access to the same excellent digital learning facilities as the UK campus, including learning platform, digital library and collaboration tools.

Students also have the option to spend part of their studies on the UK campus in Reading, which is only 22 minutes by train from London.

Students with a recognised foundation, STPM, A-level or equivalent qualifications can apply for direct entry to the LLB law degree. SPM, IGCSE and equivalent holders can enrol in the 12-month International Foundation Programme (IFP) Law pathway before progressing to the law degree. The entry points for both the law degree and IFP are in April, July and September each year.

High achiever scholarships valued up to RM33,840 are available for those with excellent academic standing (subject to terms and conditions).
