Aira and Co win Asian junior team title in style

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia justified their top seeding when they defeated Hong Kong 2-0 to lift the girls' squash title at the Asian Junior Team Championships in Chennai on Sunday.

Aira Azman put the defending champions ahead when she defeated Wai Sze Wing 11-2, 11-9, 11-5 while J. Yasshmita fought brilliantly to overcome Toby Tse 11-5, 7-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7 to take home the title.

The other players in the team guided by national coach Andrew Cross are Whitney Isabelle Wilson and Doyce Lee.

All four are competing for the first time in the competition in Chennai.

It was Malaysia's fourth consecutive team victory in the girls' event at the Asian juniors after winning in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

In the men’s team event, Malaysia finished joint third after losing to Pakistan 2-0 in the semi-finals on Saturday.
