PETALING JAYA: Mohd Shafiq Rasol of ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team believes his No. 1 spot will be under threat in Round 8 of the Malaysian Cub Prix Championship at the Tangkak Racing Track in Johor this weekend.
The Melaka-born rider is placed first in the overall standings with a total of 119 points after a good run in the last seven rounds.
Competing in the CP125 category, Shafiq started off strong this season where he was the second fastest in Round 1 but lady luck was not on his side as he did not finish on the podium in the following rounds.
He came back stronger and bagged the top spots for three consecutive rounds - Round 5, 6 and 7.
Shafiq admits the upcoming race will be tough.
“The Tangkak circuit is highly technical and we are working hard to find the right set-up for the machine as soon as possible,” said Shafiq.
“I will do my best together with my teammate this weekend to obtain as many points for the team.
“Racing at the Tangkak circuit has its pros and cons but I aspire to achieve the best possible.
“It is definitely tough considering the other riders who are constantly pushing beyond the limits in doing their best but I will try my best.”
Team manager Alizan Thambi said they would give priority to Shafiq and Mohd Hafiza Rofa, who is currently second in the overall standings, as they are the riders with the highest chance of winning Round 8.
“Our preparations are as usual. We would like to keep the momentum going as we are nearing a win in the CP125 category, be it for the individual or team,” said Alizan.
