Azroy tops round nine but Afif takes CP150 title

PETALING JAYA: Ahmad Afif Amran of Petronas Sprinta Yamaha-CKJ Racing Team became the overall CP150 champion in the Malaysian Cub Prix Championship despite finishing only sixth in round nine at the Sepang International Circuit.

Afif’s effort took his points tally to 157 and he finished top of the overall standings ahead of last year’s winner Azroy Hakeem Anuar of Honda Yuzy Idemitsu (128).

He had made the podium six times this season, including three wins in round one, two and eight.

“I’m thankful to God. It’s a blessing to be the champion this year.

“I also thank the Petronas Sprinta Yamaha-CKJ Racing team, who have worked tirelessly to find the best ways to maximise the performance of my machine.

“What we targeted was achieved today,” said Afif.

The ninth and final round saw Azroy winning the race in a time of 14:08.068.

In second place was his teammate Mohd Idlan Haqimi Raduan, who clocked in at 14:08.414. Coming in third was Mohd Iqbal Amri Abd Malek of Yamalube Gen Blu Ahm Motor Sports, who recorded 14:08.490.

Afif’s time at sixth spot was 14:08.510.

Meanwhile, in the CP125 category, Mohd Shafiq Rasol’s second-place finish was good enough to secure him the overall title.

The ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team rider timed 11:09.068 to finish behind round nine winner Mohd Idil Fitri Mahadi of YYPang Yamaha Racing Team who clocked 11:08.977,

Mohd Haziq Mohd Hamdan of Honda KC Racing finished third in 11:09:104.
