Zulfahmi fails to get any point in German GP

PETALING JAYA: It was another bad day in the office for Malaysian Moto3 rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin at the German Grand Prix yesterday.

The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider could only manage to finish 16th in the 27-lap race at Sachsenring. He was placed 17th in the previous race – the Dutch GP – on June 29.

Pole sitter Alex Rins of Spain won the race in 39:34.735 followed by compatriots Luis Salom (39:34.967) and Maverick Vinales (39:34.983).

“In the beginning it was quite good. But in the middle of the race I started to struggle at the slow corners. A number of riders passed me and I could only stick behind them because I couldn’t keep up with the pace,” lamented Zulfahmi, who started from 12 th on the grip.

Without collecting any points, Zulfahmi dropped further down in the world championship standings to 11th on 40 points. Salom strengthened his grip at the top with 172 points.

The riders will have a five-week break before they hit the Indianapolis Grand Prix on Aug 18.

“It was a disappointing result today but I want to stay positive ahead of Indianapolis. I hope to come back strong and give 110% there,” said Zulfahmi.
