Golfer Liyana strikes it right in final round to finish third in Thailand

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian golf pro Liyana Durisic showed her mettle to finish a commendable third place in the Singha-NSDF Bangkok Ladies Championship in Nakhon Nayok, Thailand, over the weekend.

Liyana saved her best for the final round with a five-under 67 to finish with a tournament total of 11-under 205.

Liyana, who carded 70 and 68 in the earlier rounds, tied for third spot with Filipino golfer Princess Superal (68-71-66).

Another Malaysian golfer Winnie Ng also shone at the Watermill Golf Club and Resort.

Winnie put up rounds of 68, 71 and 71 to settle for a share of 14th spot in the tournament.

Winnie had earned her career breakthrough win after coming out tops in the Thai LPGA Singha Life Color Tour last month.

"Happy to put together another solid week out here in Thailand. Still lots to improve but grateful for the chance to test my game on a great course set-up," said the Kuala Lumpur-born golfer.

Thai amateur Achiraya Sriwong stunned the field with consistent play throughout three days to win the competition by four strokes.

Sriwong finished with a 16-under 200 (67-64-69) with another Thai golfer Nanthikarn Raksachat taking second place on 12-under 204 (68-69-67).
