WWR raises more than RM1mil for needy

A field of more than 100 golfers showed up for the eighth annual tournament.

THE eighth Yayasan WWRC charity golf tournament was successfully held at Kota Permai Golf and Country Club in Shah Alam, where it culminated with a dinner and auction at the grand hall of SJK (C) Chung Hua in Kota Kemuning.

All of those in attendance delightfully welcomed the tournament after it was called off over the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year featured a full-field of 128 golfers, or 32 flights, on the 18-hole course and things went off without a hitch.

Among the highlights were the auction for artworks, limited editions of liquor, commemorative banknotes, Chinese calligraphy and singing performances at the dinner.

Employees of the organisers of the event and title sponsors WWRC chipped in with significant collaboration and volunteer services that helped make it a huge success.

This was reflected in SJK (C) Chung Hua Klang, Rumah Kebajikan Warga Emas Sang Riang Triang, SJK (C) La Salle Sri Petaling, Sincere Care Home Kajang, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Rumah Kasih Jing Yuan KL and Shelphard’s Center Foundation Semenyih, among other organisations receiving contributions totalling some RM1mil.

Recognising the organising committee’s efforts, participation, dedication, passion, and hard work, company chief executive officer Teoh Weng Chai said it was a collective and noble effort that made WWRC proud.

“The tournament would not have been a success without all parties’ commitment and enormous assistance,” he said.

“The idea that ‘sharing is caring’ was clearly shown throughout the event, and it goes without saying that it cultivates a better society for all.”

During the auction/dinner, a rendition of the song Kita Satu Keluarga helped raise RM88,000.

The Yayasan WWRC charity golf tournament is an annual event that has raised millions of ringgit for needy organisations in society and has been well supported over the years, during which it has established itself as one of the leading local charitable events on the amateur golf calendar.
