WWRC raises RM1.7mil for needy

The day-long event drew a field of 59 flights, with a session in the morning and afternoon.

YAYASAN WWRC celebrated their 11th annual charity golf tournament by raising RM1.7mil for the needy.

Held at Kota Permai Golf Club in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam, the popular event was staged amid enthusiasm and generosity, which brought golfers, sponsors and business partners out for a day of meaningful purpose, raising funds vital for several charitable organisations.

The beneficiaries for this year’s event were St Joseph’s Home, Vinashini Home, Epic Society, Kiwanis club of Damansara, Dignity for Children Foundation, SJK (C ) Yoke Nam, SJK (T ) Ladang Seafield and SJK (T) Ladang Emerald.

The day-long occasion began with a morning session of golf, followed by another in the afternoon, during which a total of 59 flights were hosted – 27 and 32, respectively.

The gala dinner, with auctions, sing-alongs and awards ceremony, was held at SJK (C) Chung Hua’s Grand Hall, also in Kota Kemuning. Notable guests included the Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Teresa Kok , Ganabatirau a/l Veraman, Preakas Sampunahan, Lim Yi Wei and Tony Pua.

“We were pleased to note that the sales of golf flights, auctions and songs sung by VIP guests and WWRC choir team raised a total of RM1.7mil on the day,” the organising committee said in a statement.

The winners of the golf event were honoured with trophies and several lucky draw gifts.

WWRC Group of Companies chief executive officer Teoh Weng Chai extended his “heartfelt gratitude to the organising committee, volunteers, sponsors and VIP guests for their unwavering support and dedication”.

He said he hoped these charitable initiatives continue to thrive as part of “our cherished annual tradition”.

“As WWRC’s tagline goes: ‘We Simply Improve Everything’ that includes our commitment to improving the lives of those in need,” said Teoh.

The evening drew to a close on a high note with a stirring performance by the WWRC choir featuring a rendition of Heal the World by Michael Jackson.

“Whether they returned with trophies, lucky draw gifts or simply cherished memories, every golfer, friend and WWRC member of staff left with the knowledge that they had been a part of something far more meaningful than the game itself,” the organising committee’s statement added.

“It was a powerful reminder that compassion and a charitable heart can truly make a difference in this world.”
