PETALING JAYA: Selangor continue to show their faith in rightback Quentin Cheng.
The Red Giants have secured the services of the 26-year-old on a contract extension to bolster their ambitions both domestically and on the continental stage.
The club wasted little time in making clear how highly they regard Quentin, fondly known as Q, hailing his role as the fullback.
“From tactical discipline to relentless work rate, Quentin has embodied the modern fullback blueprint since day one,” the club said in a statement on Wednesday.
“A consistent force on the right flank, his evolution into one of the most reliable profiles in the league makes him an indispensable piece of our pursuit for domestic and continental glory.”
Since his first senior appearance for the Red Giants in 2022, Quentin has accumulated 147 caps across all competitions, a testimony to his durability and consistency at the top flight.
Beyond his defensive duties, the fullback has also contributed meaningfully in attack, registering seven goals and 27 assists throughout his Selangor career.
Last season alone, he featured in 44 matches across all competitions, chipping in with two goals and 10 assists, a commendable attacking output for a player whose primary responsibility remains defensive.
The others in the team are defenders Harith Haikal Adam Afkar, Sharul Nazeem Zulpakar and Ahmad Zikri Khalili have also put pen to paper, as have goalkeepers Sikh Izhan Nazrel Sikh Azman and Azim Al Amin, and midfielders Mukhairi Ajmal Mahadi and Syahir Bashah.
On the foreign front, Ghanaian centreback Richmond Ankrah and Brazilian midfielder Victor Pernambuco have been retained while they have signed Negri Sembilan winger A. Selvan, Penang wingback Adib Abd Raop and Kelantan midfielder Nor Azam Azih.
