FAM to seek answers from FIFA over added time

PETALING JAYA: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will formally ask FIFA to explain why the added time in the Indonesia-Bangladesh match at the FIFA Asean Cup was changed from two minutes to seven.

The match was played at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on Thursday with Indonesia beating Bangladesh 9-2, which saw them qualify for the final with more goals scored than Malaysia.

Pictures of the injury time in the second half being changed from two minutes to seven went viral, drawing the ire and attention of FAM to seek clarification.

“FAM take seriously the issue concerning the change of added time during the Indonesia-Bangladesh match in the FIFA Asean Cup 2026 at Stadium Utama Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta last night, where the initially indicated two minutes of added time was subsequently changed to seven minutes,” they said in a statement issued yesterday.

“FAM will submit an official request to FIFA seeking clarification on the basis, procedures and circumstances that led to the change in the amount of added time.

“FAM consider the accurate and consistent management of match time to be an important element of officiating and the overall integrity of competition, particularly in ensuring that matches are conducted fairly, transparently and in accordance with the applicable Laws of the Game and competition regulations.

“The matter warrants clarification given the significance of the match in determining the final standings in Group A and the teams advancing to the final.”
