PETALING JAYA: Brunei ended their five-match winless streak in emphatic fashion with a near-perfect performance to beat Kelantan 3-0 in their Super League clash at the Cheras Football Stadium on Friday.
Goals from Australian striker Jordan Murray in the 12th minute, forward Syafiq Ahmad in the 23rd, and Brazilian centreback Jordan Rodrigues in the 69th sealed Brunei’s sixth league win of the season.
The victory lifted them to sixth place in the standings with 21 points from 18 matches.
Brunei coach Jamie McAllister was delighted with the team’s display, describing it as a complete performance and insisting the margin of victory could have been greater.
“It was a great game and I thought we thoroughly deserved the win,” said McAllister.
“We scored three excellent goals and could have added a couple more with some really good passages of play.
“We controlled the game and it was a complete performance. Defensively, we were excellent and limited them to very few chances.
“In possession, we dictated the tempo, created quality opportunities and scored three great goals. On another night, we might have had two or three more.”
McAllister, however, credited Kelantan for their response early in the second half.
“They came out strongly for about 10 to 15 minutes after the break, hit the post and had a couple of chances. But we weathered that spell, regained control and created one or two more opportunities.
“I’m delighted with the win and all credit goes to the players. Their communication, organisation and discipline were excellent. It’s a great three points for us.”
