PETALING JAYA: Terengganu let three important points slip by them in the Super League after Kuala Lumpur snatched a 1-0 win at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium on Friday.

A win for the Turtles at home could have seen them tied for fourth place with Kuching, but they currently sit in fifth with 28 points, while the Cats could extend the gap with two games in hand.

Terengganu interim coach Tengku Hazman said silly errors proved costly for the team, especially against an experienced squad in Kuala Lumpur.

“Playing against Kuala Lumpur, a club with experienced players, we will be punished if we make silly mistakes,” said Hazman.

“We had defended well up to a point, then let an easy goal get past us.”

Spanish midfielder Madger Gomes scored his first goal for the City Boys in the 62nd minute after a lapse in defence from the hosts.

Kuala Lumpur had recently knocked Terengganu out of the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals by winning 3-2 on aggregate.

With six matches remaining for the Turtles in the Super League, Hazman hoped his players would avoid taking losses at home and try to secure a top-five finish this season.

“Despite the loss, to me, we are still on the right track to be in the top five. And I asked the players if they wanted to do it the easy way or the hard way.

“We have a few matches to go, and we have to collect as many points as we can, especially at home,” he said.

Terengganu have two home matches remaining this season. They host Negri Sembilan in April and Immigration in May.
