PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta’zim have ended their Asean Club Championship Shopee Cup group campaign in second after etching a 1-1 draw against Nam Dinh in their final group B at the Nam Dinh Stadium on Thursday (Feb 5).
Playing in front of a spirited home crowd, Nam Dinh drew first blood in the 33rd minute when Nguyen Van Vi found the net to give the hosts a deserved lead.
JDT, known for their dominance in the Malaysian domestic league, found themselves frustrated for much of the evening by a disciplined Nam Dinh defence.
However, the tide turned in the dying stages of the match.
JDT’s persistence paid off in the 87th minute when they were awarded a penalty. The ever-reliable Bergson Da Silva made no mistake from the spot, rifling the ball home to silence the home fans and rescue a point for the visitors.
The result sees Nam Dinh topping the group with 13 points, while JDT were second with 11.
In the semis, JDT face a mouth-watering clash against group A winners Buriram United.
Meanwhile, Nam Dinh will face another Malaysian club Selangor in the other semi-final.
