PETALING JAYA: Selangor have added Brazilian firepower to their frontline with the signing of striker Chrigor Moraes and there could be more from the Land of Samba.

The 25-year-old Moraes is the second foreign signing for next month’s Super League season, following the arrival of Thai international midfielder Picha Autra.

Embarking on a new chapter in Malaysia, the confident and articulate forward is focused on settling in quickly with his new team.

“Honestly, I’m very excited to start this new chapter,” said Moraes, who had played for Buriram United in Thailand and featured in the AFC Champions League Elite and the Asean Club Championships.

He also played for PT Prachuap last year and scored 10 goals and two assists in just 13 games and emerged as one of the top scorers of the league.

“Playing abroad always comes with big challenges, but I arrived with an open heart and a strong will to adapt as quickly as possible,” said Moraes.

“From my time in Thailand, I’ve learned that this mindset helps me settle into the team culture faster.

“I did take the time to get to know the club by watching their matches, following the team on social media, and trying to understand their style of play.

“I know I still have a lot to learn, especially the language, but I’m fully committed. I’ll work hard to score goals and help the team achieve their targets this season.”

Born in Cachoeira do Sul, Brazil, Moraes began his professional journey with Brasil de Pelotas, making his Serie B debut in 2018 before moving to Red Bull Brasil.

His breakout year came in 2023 with Portuguesa, where he lit up the Copa Paulista by netting seven goals in 12 appearances, a performance that ultimately earned him a move abroad.

The Red Giants are also reportedly close to landing former Kedah and Chonburi forward Willian Lira, with sources confident that it’s a done deal.

Selangor coach Katsuhito Kinoshi believes the club have made a smart signing in Moraes, praising the striker’s maturity and hunger for growth.

“Chrigor has valuable experience in South-East Asia and brings great energy,” said Kinoshi.

“He will play an important role in our attacking setup and is expected to contribute both goals and assists.”
