PETALING JAYA: Winger Bruno Suzuki (pic) got a 10-man Police side out of a tight spot by converting two penalties to edge Negri Sembilan 2-1 in their Super League match at the Selayang Stadium on Saturday.
The Cops seemed headed for a loss after K. Nanthakumar fired the Deer in front after just seven minutes. Police centreback Badrul Affendy Fadzli was also sent off in the 68th minute for a last-man challenge.
But Japanese-Brazilian flanker Suzuki stepped up to save the Police with spot-on deliveries in the 72nd and 86th minutes.
The hard-earned win also snapped the team’s five-game losing streak in all competitions.
A relieved Suzuki said he had to manage his nerves before making no mistake from the penalty spot.
‘’Penalties are never easy, especially in a situation where your team are trailing. The pressure to score is tremendous and I’m just so relieved that I delivered,’’ said Suzuki who, incidentally, also scored his last winning goal against Negri in August last year.
He added that his challenge was made tougher as he had a little too much food after breaking his fast before the match.
‘’I felt my stomach was heavy during the match. But I guess my huge appetite also led to a hunger for goals,” jested Suzuki.
