PETALING JAYA: Bruno Suzuki (pic) is ready to assume a new role with Police in the Super League starting this month.
After playing as a centreforward for the Cops last season, new Police coach P. Maniam now wants the Japanese-Brazilian striker to play as a winger or a second striker.
In a three-pronged attack, Suzuki could find himself in the hole behind Nigerian Ifedayo Olusegun and Shahrel Fikri Md Fauzi or on one of the flanks.
The 33-year-old Suzuki, who scored 11 goals in all competitions last season, said he would still be out to increase his goal tally in his new position.
“I want to score at least 15 goals. I believe it can be done because we have top-quality players around us. We will all help each other,” he said.
“I’ve played against Dayo (Olusegun) and Eky (Shahrel), so I know the qualities they can bring to the team.
“I’m looking forward to my new role. It’s not something totally new to me, as I’ve played as a playmaker when I was with Negri Sembilan and I was a winger when I was with Terengganu. I’m ready to adapt to any system under coach Maniam, and score goals.”
Suzuki said Maniam’s training style is tough and intense but he believes it will bring them good results.
“He is a thorough professional when it comes to tactics and drills,” he said.
“Every session is tough but I’m sure it will be rewarding in the end.’’
Meanwhile, Suzuki celebrated Hari Raya Aidilfitri as a Muslim for the first time, calling the month of Ramadan a fulfilling one.
Suzuki, who was born in Castanhal, Brazil, converted in August last year and has been a practising Muslim since.
On his first year of fasting, Suzuki said: “It felt good. I enjoyed the experience and I feel rejuvenated,” said Suzuki, will tie the knot with Rosita Sulaiman today.
